Oklahoma is back in the game. After sitting out last week in terms of official visits, the Sooners are back in full force this weekend.
With that in mind, Sooners Illustrated is going to give a quick primer for each visitor to get you ready for what could be a very interesting weekend in Norman.
Sachse (Texas) High cornerback Jared Mayden (No. 56 Scout 300)
He uses his size, strength and speed to get off of blocks and contain. In coverage he is not afraid to come up to the line of scrimmage and get physical with receivers. Those two quick descriptions of his game would paint the picture that he is more of a power player, but he is also a finesse corner in a way. He has a quick backpedal and solid footwork, is good in space, and shows a quick break on the ball transitioning out of his backpedal. – Greg Powers
Sooners Illustrated’s take
January has been one sort of interesting month with OU getting in, falling out with various different prospects. Getting in with Mayden is huge, and it just goes to show the type of job Kerry Cooks is doing right now for the Sooners. The family legacy is there with James Mayden having played basketball with the Sooners, but it never seemed to matter. After decommitting from Oregon, nobody quite knew for sure where Mayden was leaning. We still don’t. He’ll have visited OU and Alabama in the last two weeks before weighing all his options. OU doesn’t need another cornerback for this class, but you 100 percent do not pass up somebody as talented as Mayden.
Better than it has ever been before in his recruitment. Still, a long ways to go. OU seemingly just couldn’t make that imprint with him. This weekend is their chance.
