OU visit preview: P.J. Blue

OU continues to hit linebacker until signing day with a visit from Louisville commit P.J. Blue

Oklahoma is back in the game. After sitting out last week in terms of official visits, the Sooners are back in full force this weekend.

With that in mind, Sooners Illustrated is going to give a quick primer for each visitor to get you ready for what could be a very interesting weekend in Norman.

Montgomery (Ala.) Park Crossing S/OLB P.J. Blue (No. 44 S, committed to Louisville)

Scout’s take

Blue is a defender who will likely start out at safety and could either stay there, or move down to outside linebacker depending on his size and the scheme he plays in. He is an athlete who has played both sides of the ball and he plays with good on the field speed. He can close on the ball and he has shown good range on the back-end of the defense. Needs to add weight to his frame and get stronger.

Sooners Illustrated’s take

A name from left field as Blue didn’t even have an offer from the Sooners when this week began. Offered by OU on Monday, Blue is an intriguing prospect in that he sort of fits exactly what OU has been doing with its linebackers the last couple of years. Bringing them in rather undersized and then beefing them up when they get to Norman. Blue was once committed to South Carolina before backing out following the resignation of Steve Spurrier. He has been committed to the Cardinals since Dec. 1, but it’s clear Blue and OU will see if they’re a fit this weekend.

OU’s chances

One hundred percent up in the air. OU has gone crazy in offering linebackers for this class and Blue is the latest. Incredibly tough to decipher the level of mutual interest and what could happen if Blue believes he’s found a home in Norman.
