Oklahoma fans were already celebrating one major commitment Friday afternoon when another came right behind it.
Tulsa (Okla.) Union cornerback Tre Brown, ranked No. 219 in the Scout 300, pledged to OU to become No. 8 for the 2017 squad. Minutes later, moments later Scranton (Pa.) Lackawanna CC running back/athlete Marcelias Sutton decided to join as well.
Sutton was committed to North Carolina State coming out of high school for the 2014 class and was still with the Wolfpack heading into this week. But OU showed the interest, made the offer and has landed its fourth Falcon in two classes.
Sutton announced the news on his Facebook page and the news was later confirmed by the Lackawanna coaching staff.
Back on signing day, OU coach Bob Stoops talked about looking at “one more” as it pertained to Lackawanna. The Sooners had signed three from the juco school for the 2016 class in offensive lineman Ashton Julious and linebackers Kapri Doucet and Emmanuel Beal.
The question was who else was there? The talk was about another 2016 member, but it seems clear now Stoops was referencing Sutton for the 2017 class.
Known for his speed, Sutton could play a variety of roles for OU. Running back, slot receiver and kick returning are some of the assets he brings to the table.
Listed at 5-foot-10 and 195 pounds, Sutton was a two-star recruit coming out of high school in North Carolina but has made a lot of strides since then.
Unable to qualify academically, Sutton knew he would have to go through the juco route and stuck true to the Wolfpack until the Sooners came calling.
OU needs to replace a lot at running back for the 2017 class. The addition of Sutton helps immensely, but OU will still be gunning for two high school running backs to fill out the class. OU is now ranked No. 2 in the Scout rankings for the 2017 class.
