With spring evaluation coming around, you start to get a better feel of who are some of the most legitimate targets out there.
For Oklahoma, the process is a little bit different with the Sooners and SoonerSquad17 having 12 commitments, but still, there are names to watch.
The next three weeks Sooners Illustrated is going to look at one major target a day and where OU seems to stand at this point in time.
This is not based on who is the most realistic target but in alphabetical order.
Mansfield (Texas) High RB Kennedy Brooks (5-11, 185, No. 13 RB, No. 112 Scout 300)
Scout says: A smooth runner. He is a bigger-framed running back who can run over you or run around you. His frame is unique for the position and he looks even bigger in person than his listed height and weight suggests. When he sees a hole or has to get past a defender he makes a move and then uses a gliding, quick-twitch style, which makes him tough to get a clean shot on in the open field, making him an elusive back in ways as well. Brooks has tremendous balance which allows him to stay on his feet when lowering his shoulder to deliver a blow or spinning away from defenders. Put up huge numbers as a junior. – Greg Powers
The breakdown: For as highly touted a prospect as Brooks is, there’s really not too much known about him. The offers don’t scream top 15 running back in the nation even if his film certainly does. Brooks being incredibly lowkey on social media and in any interviews really has also led to a lot of people wondering exactly where he stands and what schools stand out. A huge unknown as of now.
Why OU: It’s clear how pivotal running back is going to be when it comes to OU’s 2017 class. The Sooners are going to need at least two backs with everything that is leaving Norman. Brooks did indeed already visit Norman once for a spring practice so he’s familiar with the campus and building that bond with the coaches. He’s just tough to get a read on everything because he doesn’t go crazy letting the world know exactly what’s happening.
Sooners chances: Medium. OU is certainly in the mix here. A top five seems a sure bet and even a top three seems pretty on point to say. Beyond that is the question, and it doesn’t appear as if Brooks is ready to make a call just yet.
