With spring evaluation coming around, you start to get a better feel of who are some of the most legitimate targets out there.
For Oklahoma, the process is a little bit different with the Sooners and SoonerSquad17 having 12 commitments, but still, there are names to watch.
The next three weeks (with this being the final one) Sooners Illustrated is going to look at one major target a day and where OU seems to stand at this point in time.
This is not based on who is the most realistic target but in alphabetical order.
Las Vegas Arbor View DT Greg Rogers (6-4, 298, No. 3 DT, No. 35 Scout 300)
Scout says: Rogers is a massive tackle who's already pushing 300 pounds and has the frame to get even bigger. He can overwhelm the entire interior of an offensive line and gets a great push up the field. He's a strong, powerful kid and has improved his get off and burst off the ball in the last year. He shows good short area quickness as well and can out-quick an opposing guard or center to get in to the backfield. His upside is tremendous and his ceiling is as high as any tackle out West. – Greg Biggins
The breakdown: It seems pretty clear how things are going to shake out right now with Rogers. You have the local team in USC. You have the Sooners. And you have Michigan trying to make a strong push. He has loads of other offers, but it seems like it’s going to boil down to those three schools and what Rogers wants to do.
Why OU: Can’t stress it enough, but when you whiff at defensive tackle for a class like OU did for 2016, the door opens up for anybody. And Rogers is not just anybody. Rogers would be a perfect fit for the Sooners defense, and he is developing a great relationship with the OU coaches. Rogers will be a top priority the entire way.
Sooners chances: Medium. Just can’t realistically go higher than that. OU has absolutely done everything right at this point and SoonerSquad17 seems pretty fired up about trying to lure Rogers to Norman as well. The question will be how soon does Rogers want to wrap up his recruitment and will OU be able to wait it out for an official visit?null
