The first kickoff time for Oklahoma’s 2016 season was revealed Tuesday morning as the Sooners and Houston will meet 11 a.m. CST on Sept. 3.
OU will take on the Cougars at NRG Stadium in the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff with both schools making their first appearance in the fourth year of the event.
The Sooners are coming off an 11-2 season, including becoming the first school from the Big 12 to reach the college football playoff. The Cougars were 13-1, punctuating an incredible first season under Tom Herman with a win against Florida State in the Peach Bowl.
Although no game opening weekend features a better win-loss percentage than OU and Houston at 24-3 last season, it will be among the first games of the year albeit a national TV broadcast on ABC.
ESPN released a number of times for what it shaping up to be one of the most stacked opening weekends in college football history.
Other games Saturday include LSU vs. Wisconsin, Georgia vs. North Carolina, Clemson at Auburn and culminating with USC vs. Alabama from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The weekend doesn’t stop there with Notre Dame at Texas on Sunday and concludes with Ole Miss vs. Florida State on Labor Day (Monday).
Obviously this won’t be the only major nonconference game for the Sooners as OU welcomes Ohio State to Norman on Sept. 17. Kickoff time for that contest has not been determined just yet.
