The joke at The Opening regional in Dallas was The Opening event itself next month in Beaverton, Ore., was going to be a SoonerSqaud17 reunion.
Less than a month to go, and the Oklahoma commits aren’t too far off. No. 7 was added to the list Monday morning when Mesquite (Texas) Horn quarterback Chris Robison was announced as a member of the Elite 11 and as one of the 12 quarterbacks headed to Nike’s headquarters next month for the all-star event.
Robison, who committed to OU last June, has been sensational in camps all spring. He was named Quarterback MVP at The Opening regional in Dallas in March. Event organizers asked if he would come to the Houston event, and he did. And he won the MVP award there as well and was officially invited to the Elite 11 finals last weekend.
No rankings were released Monday morning in the announcement of the 12 quarterbacks but Scout’s experts had Robison ranked No. 7 following the three-day event.
OU has 13 commits for the 2017 class, ranked No. 2 by Scout and now more than half of them will be at The Opening with a chance for at least one or two more depending on the selection process.
