You can almost put to bed the 2016 class for Oklahoma. Multiple sources confirmed Thursday walk-on wide receiver Reggie Turner is indeed enrolled at OU and is in Norman now.
Turner is not some last-minute throwaway addition. He was somebody OU has been looking at for a while, but Turner had to show he could get the job done academically before he could be considered athletically.
A bit on the small side, Turner has speed for days and will give the Sooners an explosive down the field threat in the slot.
A slot position that has opened up incredibly since he first started talking to the Sooners. John Humphrey seemed to be the heir apparent at the spot, but he transferred to Arizona State in the spring.
Michiah Quick is entering his junior season at a new spot, moving from wide receiver to cornerback. So Turner is entering at the right time.
Jarvis Baxter is a senior, but he was in the exact same spot as Turner last year. Baxter arrived at OU in August as a walk-on before earning a scholarship after first few games of the 2015 season.
Turner is hoping to do the same thing. To go along with Baxter, freshman Mykel Jones will be the other slot receiver to watch. It’s only 7-on-7 workouts, but the reports have been overwhelmingly positive about Jones.
Turner gives OU depth at the slot and yet another option in terms of a kick returner. He will be a redshirt sophomore with three years of eligibility remaining.
