It is unanimous. Oklahoma enters the 2016 season ranked No. 3 by all the major polls as the Sooners were back in that familiar spot following the release of the preseason AP Top 25 poll Sunday morning.
OU was ranked third in the preseason coaches poll two weeks ago and nothing has changed with the top three from that poll. Alabama, followed by Clemson and then the Sooners.
OU will play five ranked opponents in the AP Top 25 poll, starting with No. 15 Houston in less than two weeks. Ohio State is ranked sixth with TCU ranked 13th. It is rounded out by Oklahoma State at No. 21 and Baylor coming in at No. 23.
This is OU’s highest preseason AP poll ranking since entering the 2011 season at the No. 1 spot. The Sooners finished 10-3 that season.
Florida State is No. 4, followed by LSU to round out the top five. As the season approaches, it means the top six teams will play against each other in some form or another.
- No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 5 LSU
- No. 2 Clemson vs. No. 4 Florida State
- No. 3 OU vs. No. 6 Ohio State
The Sooners take on the 15th-ranked Cougars in less than two weeks at NRG Stadium in Houston.
