Rankings are always tricky, and you never know if you’re going to catch a recruit on an off night. With Oklahoma in town to play Houston, Sooners Illustrated took the opportunity to watch Bellaire Episcopal defensive tackle Marvin Wilson.
The No. 1-ranked defensive tackle in the country, the five-star prospect absolutely did not disappoint in the Knights’ 70-21 victory against Plano Prestonwood.
Wilson was dominant in both the pass and the run game, accumulating three sacks in the first half. He also played on the offensive line. By the time the second half rolled around, it was mission accomplished for Wilson.
OU defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux was also in attendance, and he had a huge smile on his face watching Wilson work. OU made Wilson’s top 10 during the summer, including an unofficial visit in June. The Sooners are hoping to have Wilson back in Norman at least one more time.
Wilson said he appreciated Thibodeaux coming to watch him perform when the Sooners had such a big game against the Cougars the following day.
Despite routinely facing double teams, Wilson was able to fight through them and do whatever the team needed. He carries his frame well and has better than average quickness for someone as big and massive as he is.
Wilson said he intends to take all five of his official visits before making his choice, and he was at Texas A&M on Saturday and Texas on Sunday for unofficial visits.
Thibodeaux’s connection to Houston has the Sooners in the race, but OU needs Wilson on campus and needs to make an impression when he is there, which could be as early as next week against Ohio State.
Here are some images and clips of Wilson in action from this weekend.
