The season didn’t start off on the right note for OKC John Marshall’s Justin Broiles and the rest of the Bears last week.
Going against OKC Heritage Hall, John Marshall overcame a 37-17 deficit to lead 38-37 before eventually falling 45-38.
Broiles, a four-star cornerback commit for Oklahoma, is hoping things turn out differently Thursday evening when Okmulgee (Okla.) High comes to town.
It’s usually pretty tough for a top corner in the state to put up big numbers because opposing teams simply avoid looking in your direction. That seemed to be the case last week with Broiles notching just two tackles.
So you have to find other ways to contribute and Broiles did that with three receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown to go along with catching the two-point conversion that gave the Bears their first lead of the second half.
The other name to watch is definitely 2018 running back Devonte Lee. Coming off a great sophomore season, Lee put on a show in his first game as a junior.
He rushed for 233 yards on 18 attempts with three touchdowns and was the catalyst for the major second half comeback. He had 1,560 yards and 17 touchdowns as a sophomore.
His recruiting hasn’t been as extensive as you might have thought at this point with his ability and production, but he can’t be ignored forever. Especially when averaging more than 12 yards per carry.
