The Sooners, the lone undefeated team in Big 12 conference play, were ranked No. 14 in the initial college football playoff poll Tuesday evening.
OU, who has won its last five games, is the top-ranked Big 12 team in the poll but below multiple two-loss teams in the top 13.
It has felt like for a while OU’s playoff hopes were dashed after Ohio State walked out of Norman with a 45-24 win on Sept. 17, but the Sooners best way to make a statement is to run the table in the conference and see where things shake out.
Last year OU was in a similar spot in terms of being on the outside looking in and then taking care of business by beating multiple ranked opponents in the final month of the season.
That will be the case again, but it looks like a much tougher road to get into the top four because of the perception of the Big 12.
OU heads to Ames to take on Iowa State on Thursday. After that? The Sooners can do themselves some good things by taking care of business.
