RECRUITING: Sooners in on California DE

San Jose DE Jeff Schweiger says Oklahoma is in his top five, but will the Sooners get a visit?

JEFF SCHWEIGER, DE, 6-4, 245, 4.5, SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA (VALLEY CHRISTIAN HS):

JH: How did your summer go?

JS: "Things are going well. My summer workouts went excellent. I was able to meet my strength quotas. I wanted to get to 385 on bench and 485 on the squat. I was already at those totals at the start of the summer, but I wanted to maintain those numbers while getting faster and quicker and I was able to do that."

JH: Have you played any games yet?

JS: "No, we start September 5 against Hollister. Last year we beat them pretty good, but they return several starters. This should be one of our toughest games."

JH: How good are you going to be?

JS: "I think we are going to win again."

JH: How many schools have offered you at this time?

JS: "I have been offered by around 35 schools. I am going to visit Michigan this weekend. I am going to take another visit or two during a bye week during the season. I don't know where I'll go on that visit yet, but I am working on trying to decide where to visit."

JH: Do you have a top five?

JS: "USC, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Miami and Michigan. Those are the five visits that I am probably going to take."

JH: What are your thoughts on Oklahoma?

JS: "I like Oklahoma. I like Bob Stoops and I like how Oklahoma plays defense."

JH: Did you grow up a fan of any of these teams?

JS: "Not really. I want to keep an open mind until after my visits. I mostly grew up a fan of Notre Dame because of Rudy and all the stories about Notre Dame."

JH: It sounds like you will probably leave California?

JS: "Yeah, there is a good chance that I will leave California. If one of those schools can present something that I really like, then I will be leaving California."
