How will Oklahoma build off its 2017 class is a major question. SoonerSquad17 finished No. 6 in Scout’s rankings, but now the page turns to 2018.
The Sooners have three commits with two of them in the Scout 100. Who are some of the other targets? Where does OU stand with them?
An early look at the 38 names of interest in the eyes of Sooners Illustrated for OU’s #SavageTeam2K18 class.
Again, pure opinion. Some offers aren’t listed on here. Some prospects don’t have offers but are listed. By no means an official look.
Moore (Okla.) Southmoore OT Brey Walker
Even though he’s a commit, say up here because Walker seems even more eager to represent OU in the future. He’s trying to recruit more and his relationship is as solid as it gets.
Houston Alief Taylor WR Brennan Eagles
A longtime favorite of Sooners Illustrated doesn’t mean a strong favorite for OU. Eagles has the offer and The Opening invite. A trip to Norman would get this more in an up direction for the new five-star.
Manvel (Texas) High WR Jalen Preston
That’s not good or bad. OU offered Preston a long time ago, but it’s hard to see the Sooners beating out Texas A&M at this juncture. Sooners are in the hunt, though.
Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy RB T.J. Pledger
If asked today, would say Pledger is the most realistic shot for OU at running back for the class. The Sooners are going to be there the whole time for Pledger.
St. Louis Parkway North DT Michael Thompson
Not going to lie, too early to know where Thompson sees OU in grand scheme of things right now.
Bossier City (La.) Parkway WR Terrace Marshall
OU made the initial top 12 and most believe the Sooners would make a top five or even a top three. The main competition here is easily going to be LSU, no doubt about it.
Las Vegas Bishop Gorman TE Brevin Jordan
Jordan seemed fired up about the offer from OU a long time ago but no indication lately as to where Sooners stand.
Katy (Texas) Taylor DE Max Wright
Don’t get excited about this one. Wright seems a lean toward Aggies and not much is going to change that.
Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point TE Mustapha Muhammad
Like what OU has been able to do with Muhammad so far. Think Sooners will make a strong run and be there until the end.
Justin (Texas) Northwest OT Darrell Simpson
Simpson has made more trips to OU than just about any prospect in this list. A two-man class of Walker and Simpson would be scary to even think about, but it’s a real possibility.
Houston Lamar CB Anthony Cook
One of those where you know OU is doing well with Cook, but is it good enough? The Sooners are in the race but probably not in the top two at the moment.
Newbury Park (Calif.) High QB Cameron Rising
The way Rising is recruiting on social media for OU is a great sign, especially since Rising isn’t going to be able to be in Norman all too often like Chris Robison always was.
Rockwall (Texas) OLB Alston Orji
Another one where OU fans should feel pretty pumped. OU has developed a great bond with Orji and his family. Things are looking great for Sooners at this moment.
Owasso (Okla.) High S Josh Proctor
Ohio State wants in this race badly, but it’s hard to see where OU messes this one up. Give credit to Kerry Cooks for that initial offer in November 2015 and staying ahead of the curve.
Houston Spring Westfield DT Keondre Coburn
Like Hardreck Walker, Ed Oliver before him, just doesn’t feel like OU is going to be able to make a dent with a Spring Westfield defensive tackle.
St. Louis Chaminade Prep DT Trevor Trout
Too early to make a call here.
Fort Worth (Texas) Timber Creek WR Erik Ezukanma
Ezukanma blew up during the fall with his junior season, which is when he was offered by OU. A trip to Norman in the spring would be a great start.
