Three former Oklahoma football players will represent the Sooners at next month’s NFL Combine as the official list was released Monday morning.
Running back Samaje Perine, wide receiver Dede Westbrook and defensive lineman Charles Walker will all be in Indianapolis to showcase their skills.
It was revealed less than two weeks ago that running back Joe Mixon, because of his off the field issues from 2014, was not going to get an invite, but there were a couple of minor surprises in the negative for OU.
Linebacker Jordan Evans and safety Ahmad Thomas, though not as high profile of names for the NFL Draft, were two Sooners who could have been invited to the Combine. With Monday’s list being released, though, it’s clear Evan and Thomas will not be in Indianapolis.
OU is tied with Baylor for having the second most players in the conference at three. West Virginia leads all Big 12 schools with five. The Big 12, as a whole, is by far the worst-represented major conference for the 2017 combine.
The SEC leads with 66, followed by the ACC at 60. Then the Big Ten is next at 51 with the Pac-12 closely behind at 47. The Big 12? Way down there. Only 18 representatives from the Big 12 headed to Indianapolis this time around.
