Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley is ready to make his move at quarterback and his first one was done Tuesday afternoon.
Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West quarterback Adrian Martinez announced via Twitter he is OU’s first quarterback offer in nearly 12 months for the 2018 class.
Martinez, a four-star prospect, decommitted from California last week with most believing Tennessee has become the school to beat.
But timing can be everything in recruiting, and as Martinez was backing out with the Bears, the Sooners were back to looking for a quarterback.
Newbury Park (Calif.) High’s Cameron Rising flipped his commitment from OU to Texas less than two weeks ago after having been pledged to the Sooners since August.
Riley’s first priority has seemed to be Martinez in the last seven days. The two connected on Twitter last week with Martinez saying OU would be visiting with him this week.
Despite Martinez being another California quarterback, the Sooners do have an in right now with the No. 21-ranked quarterback.
Sophomore linebacker Caleb Kelly went to Fresno Clovis West and could play a role in the Sooners trying to lure Martinez to Norman, for at least a visit.
OU hadn’t made a quarterback offer for the 2018 class since last May. After a few days of regrouping following Rising’s surprise flip, Riley is poised to make another run to add another major signal-caller to OU’s quarterback room.
Although Tennessee does seem like the school to watch, it’s not stopping the offers from flooding in. Texas Tech offered Martinez just hours before OU did Tuesday.
