It was Nicole Pendley once again setting the tone for the Oklahoma softball team, hitting a three-run home run in the first inning of OU’s initial game at the Women’s College World Series.
Pendley’s blast propelled OU to a 6-3 victory against Baylor to set up the Sooners taking on Washington at 8:30 p.m. CST Friday in a winner’s bracket matchup at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
The Sooners, seeded No. 10, scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to alleviate any nerves on the big stage.
Junior pitcher Paige Parker was efficient in earning the win. She pitched six innings on just 68 pitches and had two strikeouts.
It wasn’t a clean game for Patty Gasso’s bunch. OU, ranked No. 4 in fielding percentage, committed four errors and gave the 15th-seeded Bears plenty of extra chances.
This was not the first time Pendley has come up with a huge three-run shot in the postseason as she did the same thing last Saturday in OU’s Super Regional victory at Auburn.
With Parker only throwing 68 pitches, it wouldn’t be crazy to assume the junior will be back in the circle to take on the Huskies, who scored a mini-upset of No. 3 Oregon earlier in the evening.
