NORMAN, Okla. — Sophomore quarterback Paul Thompson has been a pleasant surprise as the Sooners backup quarterback this season. His improvement has been dramatic and his leadership has been outstanding. OUInsider.com had a chance to talk with Thompson after Monday's practice for the latest segment of our two minute drill.

JH: The coaches say your improvement is not a surprise to them, because you work so hard. Doesn't it feel good to you that the coaches now expect you to be good every time you take the field?

PT: "I take that as compliment, because I am always going to work hard in the off-season and in practice. It is going to eventually pay off for me, so I have to stay focused and continue to work hard.

JH: Is it tough being a back-up quarterback?

PT: "No, not really. Of course, you always want to be a starter, and I am pushing every day to be a starter. If this is where I am at right now then this is where I am at. I am not going to hold a grudge against anybody for that. I am confident in the coaches and the decisions that they make, and I am going to continue to do the best I can and push Jason every day."

JH: How did you improve your passing accuracy so much this season?

PT: "Thanks, and I do think have improved in the passing game. A lot of it is just getting to know the system better and learning the offense to get more comfortable and confident in what I am doing. I am playing with more confidence now than ever before as a quarterback and I think that is showing up in the passing game."

JH: What is your thought on how the offense is playing at this point?

PT: "Our offense looks good and it is doing real well right now. Our receivers are doing a great job. Our o-line and running backs are playing well and Jason is throwing the ball well right now. Jason is making some great reads and making some great throws. The offense is looking very good right now."

JH: On every play are you ready go to in and lead the Sooners to victory?

PT: "Yes, without question. On every single play I am ready if needed for anything the coaches need me for to help this team win football games."
