BASEBALL RECRUITING: The rebuilding continues

OU Head Baseball Coach Larry Cochell is off to a great start in recruiting with seven outstanding early commitments.

The Oklahoma baseball team has come up with an outstanding group of early commitments that will bode well for a great recruiting class in the spring. Listed below is a group of seven players that have committed and will sign in the early signing period.

Chucky Caufield, OF/P, Switch/RHT, 6'2, 195, Seminole JC/Ada High:
Brother of OU Women's basketball star LaNeisha Caufield, Chucky is a former QB at Ada and a tremendous athlete. Blessed with great speed, Caufield was drafted in the 25th round last year after his first year of junior college baseball. He will probably play the outfield at OU.

Jared Freeman, 1B/3B/P, Lefthand Hitter/RHT, 6'3, 205, Moore (Westmoore HS), Oklahoma:
The best player on the outstanding Westmoore team, Freeman is their ace pitcher, but will probably be a power hitting corner position player in college.

Kody Kaiser, 2B, Switch/RHT, 5'10, 175, Edmond (Sante Fe HS), Oklahoma:
Sunny Golloway's nephew is a tremendous player. Super quick, switch hitter that will hit in the first or second hole in the future for the Sooners.

Freddie Rodriguez, SS, R/R, 6'1, 175, Cypress JC:
Slick fielding junior college shortstop.

Kevin Smith, 3B, L/R, 6'1, 220, Cypress JC: I really don't know much about either (Smith and Rodriguez player yet, except both are very good infielders and tough outs. Smith has some pop, but I will learn more about them in a couple of weeks.

Dallas Trahern, SS/P, R/R, 6'2, 180, Owasso, Oklahoma:
The best player in the best program in the state. Trahern is a super propsect as a middle infielder and as a pitcher. He could fill out and play 3B and close. He will be a high draft choice, but OU thinks they can hold him. If they can OU will get a tremendous talent.

Jackson Williams, C, R/R, 5'11, 187, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma:
Good athlete that OU projects as a catcher of the future. Reportedly hits with some pop.
