RECRUITING: Coale lands top post prospect

Brookfield, Wisc. post player Kelly Lam talks about her commitment to the OU women's basketball team.

JH: Your visits are over, so have you made a decision?

KL: "I have decided to be a Sooner, and I am pumped about it!"

JH: When did you know for sure you wanted to be a Sooner?

KL: "I wanted to verbal last Wednesday, but my partner and I found out that we were in the state tennis tournament. I got so wrapped up in that my dad told me to enjoy that athletic competition, so my dad went to Oklahoma to look around because he didn't get to go with me when I took my official visit. I really felt strong about Oklahoma when I got back from my last visit from Colorado. I came back and it narrowed me down to where I wanted to go. I had just been in Boulder for a couple of days and I just didn't get the feeling at Colorado or Marquette that I got at Oklahoma. Then I just started to think things through and I just had a much better feeling about Oklahoma."

JH: What is it about the Oklahoma program that won you over?

KL: "I love Coach (Sherri) Coale. She is a great coach, a fun person and will get me playing the best basketball that I can play. The entire coaching staff is great and super coaches. When I went to Oklahoma the team was just wonderful to me. I know they are going to be great teammates."

JH: What were your stats last season?

KL: "For my junior year in high school I averaged 15 points and seven rebounds per contest. Then in the summer I played my best basketball, but I couldn't tell you my stats."

JH: How would you describe your game?

KL: "My game is very strong, physical play underneath the basket. I work hard for rebounds, I work my butt off around the basket and I work hard to get my shots around the basket. I can hit the 12 foot jumper and that always keeps the defense honest."

JH: How do you feel you will fit into the Oklahoma system?

KL: "I think I fit pretty well into Coach Coale's system, just based on how she picks players for her roster. OU is a physical team, but they don't have a lot of size. They have great skill. I think I will give them some size and I think I also bring some skill to the court."
