Oklahoma leads the all-time series 36-16-2 and they are 15-8-2 in Boulder. And since their 17-14 win at Folsom Field on Oct. 22, 1988, the Sooners are 0-3-1 in Boulder.
Oklahoma is No. 1 in the ESPN/USA Today, Associated Press and BCS Polls. Colorado is unranked. The Buffs had climbed to as high as No. 17 in the polls earlier this season before their 47-26 loss to Washington State back on September 13.
Oklahoma Head Coach Bob Stoops is 50-9 overall in his fifth season at OU. Colorado Head Coach Gary Barnett is 35-25 through five seasons in Boulder and has a career mark of 75-81-2. Barnett is 2-2 vs. Oklahoma. Stoops is 2-1 against Barnett and the Buffs.
The last time Colorado hosted the No. 1 ranked team in Boulder was 25 years ago on Nov. 4, 1978, when then No. 1 Oklahoma beat the Buffs 28-7. Colorado is 0-9 in its history against No. 1 ranked teams ... The Buffaloes began the 2003 season with wins over Colorado State and UCLA before dropping their next three games (Washington State, at Florida State, at Baylor). The Buffs picked up their first Big 12 win with a 50-47 overtime thriller over Kansas in Boulder before losing last week, 49-20, to Kansas State in Manhattan ... CU starting running back Bobby Purify is expected to miss Saturday's game. Purify will be replaced by sophomore Brian Calhoun, who rushed for 122 yards on 20 carries against the Sooners last year in the Big 12 championship game ... Colorado was able to make it to two straight Big 12 title games running the football, but this year that attack has changed as the Buffaloes are third in the Big 12 and 10th in the country in passing offense (315.3) ... Walk-on QB Joel Klatt got off to a sensational start in the season-opener when he completed 21-of-34 passes for 402 yards and four touchdowns against Colorado State. Klatt, who played three seasons of minor league baseball in the San Diego Padres farm system before enrolling at Colorado, is 20th nationally in passing yards (1,470), 19th in completions (125) and 21st in attempts (196) despite missing the Florida State and Baylor game due to injury ... Klatt also has an impressive pair of weapons to throw to. Derek McCoy ranks fourth in the Big 12 and is 12th nationally with a 96.9 receiving yards per game average, and D.J. Hackett is eighth in the Big 12 with an 88.4 per game average ... The Buffaloes rank 29th nationally in total offense (420.7) and are 54th in scoring offense (27.3) ... Another scoring threat for the Buffs is kick return specialist Jeremy Bloom. Bloom, who returned a punt for a touchdown against the Sooners last year in the Big 12 title game, averages 12.3 yards per punt return and 25.6 yards per kick-off return ... On defense the Buffs are off to a horrendous start and rank 109th nationally in total defense (460.3) and 117th in scoring defense (40.1.
With their win over Missouri last week the Sooners improved to 65-6-0 when ranked No. 1. This week also marks the 16th week the OU has occupied the top spot since Bob Stoops arrived ... Stoops also earned his 50th victory as a head coach last week against Missouri accomplishing the feat in just 59 games. One would think that was the quickest the feat was accomplished at OU, but Barry Switzer did it in 56 games while Bud Wilkinson only took 58 ... Junior punt returner Antonio Perkins tied the the career record for career punt returns for touchdowns last weekend. Perkins is tied with 11 other players for the record, including current Texas Tech player Wes Welker and former Cornhusker Johnny Rogers ... Perkins also has 1,136 career punt return yards, which stands 102 short of former Sooner Jarrail Jackson for the all-time mark at OU ... Last year's defense only recorded 37 sacks through 14 games, but this year's unit is on pace to better that and break the school record for sacks in a season (41) set in 1997. Through seven games the Oklahoma defense has already recorded 24 sacks ... On the other side of the ball, OU quarterbacks have dropped back to pass 245 times and have only been sacked eight times ... Senior QB Jason White did nothing to hurt his Heisman run last week and still ranks No. 1 in the NCAA in pass efficiency, yards per completion, and is No. 2 in touchdown passes, No. 5 in completion percentage, No. 7 in yards per attempt and No 15 in total offense ... White is currently sixth on OU's career passing list with 2,624 passing yards ... Heralded safety Donte Nicholson is starting to emerge midway through his first season of division one football. The junior college transfer from California is second on the team in tackles (48) and has recorded 21 stops in OU's last two games ... Oklahoma's defense currently ranks third nationally in total defense (260.00) and is No. 8 in scoring defense (14.43) ... Offensively, the Sooners are No. 2 nationally in scoring offense (45.71) and 15th in total offense (463.57)
