Recruiting: Sooners lose tight end prospect

Colleyville, Texas athlete Chad Baca is headed for Big 10 country

Position: TE/DE
Height: 6'4
Weight: 220
Forty: 4.75
Hometown: Colleyville, Texas
High School: Colleyville (Heritage) HS

Chad is a 3-year starter who played quarterback as a sophomore, tight end as a junior and this year is playing wide receiver.

A year ago, Baca mostly blocked, but he did pull down 12 catches for 140 yards and three touchdowns. This year he is playing at receiver, but when the team goes into the shotgun formation Baca is back at quarterback. As a receiver, Baca has pulled in eight catches for 135 yards and three touchdowns.

Baca can bench 315 pounds, squats 405 and has a vertical jump of 28-inches at the Texas A&M Camp.

Baca was looking at OU, Texas A&M, Memphis and Vanderbilt before he committed to Purdue.

"This year two of their tight ends graduate," said Baca. "They signed two tight ends last year, but both grew out of the position as one starts at offensive tackle and one at defensive tackle. So, the position is wide open for me and another freshman that they are going to sign. Plus, Purdue throws the football a lot."
