Sooners stay unbeaten with win over Prairie View

Lavender scores 13 in OU's 83-56 win over Prairie View A&M.

NORMAN, Okla. — Drew Lavender led four Sooners to score in double figures as No. 11 Oklahoma (7-0) improved to 7-0 with their 83-58 win over Prairie View A&M (0-5) Saturday night in Norman.

Lavender, who hit the game-winning shot Thursday night against Purdue, scored a team-high 13 points and dished out a game-high seven assists.

Joining Lavender in double figures were De'Angelo Alexander, Jaison Williams and Johnnie Gilbert. Alexander scored 11 points white Williams and Gilbert chipped in 10.

Oklahoma jumped out to a 41-25 half time lead and then used a 26-5 run early in the second half to break the game open.

"I always enjoy playing Prairie View because they are a very well-coached team," sais OU Head Coach Kelvin Sampson, whose Sooners are off to their best start since the 1999-00 season. "It's good for us to play them."

"I thought we would play a little bit better tonight, but we did a lot of good things also. We have some things to work on, but we have a whole week for the next game."

Redshirt freshmen Larry Turner got his first start as a Sooner in place of Kevin Bookout and responded with nine points, two rebounds and one block.

"Kevin could have played, but we want to give him as much rest as possible," said Sampson on Bookout, who is still nursing a shoulder injury. "I thought some of our kids played a little too casual tonight, but they stepped it up in the second half. We need to be able to play with the intensity with Bookout gone. We're going to work on it and figure it out in practice on Monday."
