Lindale, Texas defensive end Michael Williams talks about his decision

MICHAEL WILLIAMS, DE, 6'4, 225, 4.6, LINDALE, TEXAS:

JH: How did your visit to OU go this weekend?

MW: I like it and I committed to the Sooners this weekend. I went into that visit thinking that I was going to go to Oklahoma, but I didn't think I would commit this weekend. However, Bob Stoops started talking to me and from what he said I thought it was in my best interest that I go ahead and commit. I felt real comfortable with Coach Stoops and just felt that was the way to go for me.

JH: What did you like about Oklahoma?

MW: I like the atmosphere of Oklahoma. It's like a small town, but there are things are do there. I really like the players and they were great with me. They told me the good and bad things of living in Norman. Players from other teams never told me negative things about their town, yet the Oklahoma players were very honest about everything. I am from a small town, so Norman was very nice to me.

JH: Are you done taking visits?

RW: I still want to visit other schools, but only just to look around. Texas still wants me to come in an visit on the December 14 and I would like to take that visit. I know that no other school can beat Oklahoma, so my commitment is firm. I haven't talked to Oklahoma about this yet, but I don't think they will be upset about it.

JH: What was it about OU that convinced you to commit to the Sooners?

RW: OU told me that I will have a chance to play early and you can't beat that. They are the best team in the country and to have a chance to play as a freshman is incredible. I want a chance to play early and to get that opportunity on a national championship team is pretty incredible. OU doesn't have a lot of depth at defensive end, but every school tells me they don't have a lot of depth. Texas wants me to play linebacker and they say they don't have a lot of depth there.

JH: Have you told Texas that you have committed to OU?
RW: Texas hasn't called me yet, so I don't know if they know it or not.

JH: How is your season going at this time?
RW: As a team we are 5-2. I am having a better year on defense than on offense. I am playing wide receiver on offense, but we have been running the ball a lot and most teams can't stop our running game. On defense, I have 11 sacks at this point, but that is the only stat I really know about.
