Franklin Okam, DT, 6-4, 300, 5.0, Dallas, Texas (Lake Highlands HS):
JH: How did your visit to OU go?
FO: It went well. I was probably more impressed with their academic stuff than anything else. I didn't know anything about their academic stuff and I knew quite a bit about their athletic department. I got to see that they are more interested in us than for us to just play football, and they are very interested in us graduating and they will provide us with everything needed to graduate.
JH: Did you find that they had your major and your academic study you were looking for?
FO: Yes, I did, and they have my major.
JH: What did you find out about the football program?
FO: They have a pretty close team down there. When they all got together they liked to hang out with each other and there was no animosity among the team at all. The facilities were some of the better ones that I have seen. They told me that they only have one guy returning that played the 'three' technique, and they told me that if I worked hard that I could come in and get some playing time early.
JH: You told me before the visit that you wanted to go to OU and learn how they play such great defense. Did you find your answers?
FO: I needed to talk to some of the other defensive coaches to get more of a feel about the entire defense, but as far as the defensive line I got a pretty good idea talking to Coach Shipp. In the defensive line they are always attacking and they are not used to just block guys of the linebackers. The defensive linemen at OU get a chance to make plays and they are always moving up hill to make those plays.
JH: Did your visit enhance the Sooners chances to sign you on signing day?
FO: Yes, I would say that it enhanced those possibilities a little bit.
JH: Are you still planning to take your final two visits?
FO: Yes, I am leaving on Tuesday. Then I will go to Stanford this weekend.
JH: What would you say about recruiting and who are your top contenders at this point?
FO: It is winding down. I know that much and I am getting closer to a decision. I would say my top contenders at this moment are OU, Texas, Florida and OSU.
