Recruiting Notebook

The latest on juco DT Remi Ayodele, Texas RB Adrian Peterson, Florida DT Emmanuel Dunbar (pictured left), Phoenix TE Zach Miller and Dallas DT Franklin Okam.

Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Junior College defensive tackle Remi Ayodele was all set to commit to Colorado Sunday night, but woke up Monday morning with second thoughts.

Apparently, there are a lot of reasons for that, but the recent bad publicity that has fallen on the Colorado program hasn't helped the Buffs with Remi. As of today, it seems that Remi doesn't want to Colorado and he is now trying to decide between OU and OSU.

OSU has an advantage in that they have been recruiting him much longer than the Sooners have, but the Sooners have an edge in that they are the better program and Remi can step in and get into the rotation quicker, especially if OU doesn't sign Franklin Okam.

Where OU has a big edge is that Remi's older brother wants him to go to OU and he really likes OU Assistant Coach Kevin Sumlin. OU is also closer to home and that means an easier drive for mom.

So, the reason why Remi hasn't announced anything is because he still hasn't decided where he is going. OU has emerged as a solid contender for Remi and they are very much in the running. OSU is working him very hard as well as OU and at this point it is too close to call.

I spoke with Palestine, Texas running back Adrian Peterson's mother early Monday even and she says her is will sign with Oklahoma on Wednesday.

She said that she likes Texas head coach Mack Brown, but that she knows her son wants to go to OU and that is where she wants him to go as well.

The Sooners are in an intense battle with Florida State for defensive tackle Emmanuel Dunbar of Deerfield Beach, Fla. The Sooners are so much in the picture that Emmanuel and his mother called OU Assistant Coach Darrell Wyatt tonight to gather more information on the Sooners.

I was able to catch up with Emmanuel for no more than an minute, but in that brief time it is obvious that Dunbar is struggling with his decision.

JH: Are you close to making your decision?

ED: "Yes."

JH: Do you know what you are going to do?

ED: "No. I am having a hard time making a decision. I don't know who to chose between Oklahoma and Florida State."

JH: What is it that is making the decision so tough?

ED: "Sir, I really have to go. I need to continue to talk this over with my mom."

JH: Good luck Emmanuel.

I have stated many times in the past that Emmanuel likes OU the best and the key questions is whether or not he can leave home or not. OU got in on him early and Dunbar fell in the love with the program. Coach Wyatt and Jackie Shipp have done a great job recruiting him and if he was closer to OU this recruiting would already be over.

Florida State didn't not recruit Dunbar early, but when they jumped in that gave Dunbar the big time program close to home that he was looking for. However, on his visit he just didn't get as good a feeling about the program as he did when he visit OU. Again, Dunbar really likes the OU program better.

In my opinion Dunbar still likes the OU program the best and right now he is trying to convince himself that he can leave home. If he can do just that, then OU will sign Dunbar on Wednesday.

There is no truth to the rumor that all-american tight end Zach Miller of Phoenix, Arizona is considering jumping his commitment from Arizona State to OU.

The Miller family said tonight that he is still firmly committed to Arizona State and that he will sign with the Sun Devils early Wednesday morning.

And last but not least, OU has not been able to get hold of DT Franklin Okam of Dallas, Texas tonight, and it is beginning to feel as if he will either sign with Texas or Stanford. However, Okam has been such a mystery guy that nobody really knows. He will announce his decision Tuesday night at 10 p.m. on Fox Sports Southwest.
