Recruiting: N.C. athlete has Sooners in top three

Windsor, N.C. super athlete JeJuan Rankins still plans on visiting OU

JeJuan Rankins, WR/DB, 5'11 <=, 160, 4.4, WINDSOR BERTIE, NORTH CAROLINA:

JH: How is your season going?

JR: I am playing quarterback right now. It's a rush really, but I am having fun with it. We spread it out and throw out of it and I take off running every chance I get. I play safety every game, but I haven't played at all at wide receiver this year. I am 42 for 86 for 788 and 13 touchdowns passing.

I also have six touchdowns rushing, two touchdowns on punts returns (99, 40) and two kickoff returns for touchdowns (89 and 94). We are 8-1 on the year and ranked fourth in the state. Our playoffs start next week.

JH: What position are most schools recruiting you to play?

JR: A lot of schools are recruiting me as a defensive back, but most are saying either wide receiver or defensive back. I really don't care where I play.

JH: How is recruiting going?

JR: Right now Oklahoma, Georgia (12-13) and Michigan (12-7). There are some other schools that I am not totally going to count out, but those three schools are very much in the race. I really don't have a favorite right now. I was close to committing to Michigan at one time, but now I am more open about the situation. I looked at Michigan's depth chart and they have a lot of receivers that haven't even played yet. I just felt I needed to really think things over. I am not saying that I won't go to Michigan, but I want to look at Oklahoma and Georgia, because both are great schools.

JH: What are your thoughts on the schools you are considering?

JR: I really like the system that Oklahoma runs. When I visit OU I am really going to check out their offense and how the wide receivers fit into the offense. I haven't been to Georgia so I know nothing about them, but I like their offense as well.
