Sooner women advance to finals

OU's first half 3-point barrage pushes Sooners past KSU and into Friday's title game against Texas.

DALLAS, Texas — Maria Villarroel scored a game-high 23 points as the sixth-seeded Sooners advanced to the Big 12 title game with a 78-66 win over second-seeded and 8th-ranked Kansas State Thursday in Dallas.

Oklahoma (22-8) used eight first half 3-pointers to build a 49-35 halftime lead and never look back. Overall, the Sooners shot 47 percent from the field and hit 10 of their 19 3-point attempts.

In addition to her 23 points, Villarroel added grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and four assists. Leah Rush added 15 and Dionnah Jackson added 15.

The Sooners will face Texas in Saturday's championship game. The Longhorns, who advanced to the title game with a 63-59 win over Baylor, swept Oklahoma this season. The 'Horns beat the Sooners, 63-58, on Jan. 10 in Austin and then knocked off OU again on senior night, 57-54.

Tip-off for Saturday's title game is set for 6 p.m. at Reunion Arena in Dallas. This will be the third appearance for the Sooners in the Big 12 title game.
