Selection Sunday bittersweet for OU hoops programs

Oklahoma head coach Sherri Coale's Sooners are headed to their fifth straight NCAA Tournament while Kelvin Sampson's Sooners are headed to the NIT. The Sooner men will play LSU at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Norman while the OU women will tip-off their NCAA tournament run next Saturday against Marist in Tempe, Ariz. Selection Sunday was a bittersweet day for the the men's and women's basketball programs at Oklahoma.

For the first time in nine years the Sooner men will not be headed to the NCAA Tournament, while the women are headed to the 'Big Dance' for the fifth straight season.

Sherri Coale's Sooners went from a possible bubble team last week to a No. 3 seed in the Midwest Region after winning the Big 12 conference Tournament last weekend in Dallas. Kelvin Sampson's Sooners are headed to the NIT, where they will have a chance to get some revenge for the Oklahoma football team against first round opponent LSU this Wednesday in Norman.
