RECRUITING: Texas FS hopes to attend spring game

Sulphur Springs, Texas free safety Keenan Clayton talks about his favorites and interest in OU.

Keenan Clayton is a rising star in the state of Texas and he is regarded as one of those hard-hitting safety types that also has the ability to cover in open space.

Starting for the first time last season, Clayton picked off three passes and made numerous tackles in the secondary.

"I think the college coaches are recruiting me to play both free and strong safety," said Clayton. "I certainly think I can play both positions. I have even played cornerback before, so I think I can cover pretty good."

Clayton can bench 305 pounds, squas 430 and he has a 36-inch vertical jump. Clayton is currently running the spring relay (second) and the 800 meter relay (second leg).

Clayton went to the one-day mini-camps at Texas and SMU last summer, and this summer he plans to go to as many schools as possible. Clayton went to the spring game at Texas and liked what he saw.
"I liked it. I talked to the recruiting coach in my area and things seemed to go pretty well," said Clayton. "It was a typical visit and they said they would get back to me (about an offer)."

Clayton has been offered by Arizona, Baylor, SMU at this time, and he is slowly getting into the recruiting mode.

"I really like Texas, OU, USC, LSU and Miami at this point," said Clayton. "I am receiving information and I have talked to coaches from USC and OU. I don't know much about Oklahoma, but I want to get up there and see how much I like it.

"I want to go somewhere I can play by at least my sophomore year. I don't mind redshirting. I don't want to go anywhere where I have to wait four to five years to play. I am looking for a school that can take care of my education needs and I am looking to get into coaching when I get out of college."

Clayton hopes to make it Norman for the Sooners Red/White game on April 17.
