NORMAN, Okla. — Junior quarterback Paul Thompson had another good practice for the Sooners, this time during OU's second major scrimmage of the spring.
Thompson got off to a slow start, but warmed up nicely completing 20 of 28 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown. The best news about Thompson's performance was that he made very few mistakes and did not throw an interception.
After practice, Thompson had time to talk the OUInsider.com for the Two Minute Drill.
JH: How did things go for you today in the scrimmage?
PT: "Things went pretty smooth. We started off a little slow, but as everybody got a little more comfortable out here things went a lot better."
JH: The coaches are not running the quarterback draws and the quarterback run game that you are so good at, and they are forcing you to work out of their regular offense that works so well for Jason White. How is this benefiting you this Spring?
PT: "The running stuff is kind of natural for me. I don't need to practice running the ball that much. I am forcing myself to sit in the pocket, go through my reads and think about things like that. I think that is going to help me a lot."
JH: There have been some reprts that you're going to redshirt next year. Is that true?
PT: "That is just a rumor. We were thinking about the possibilities of next year and that is just one of the ideas that came up. That is not what I want to do. I want to get on the field and play as soon as possible. That is just an option that is out their, but that is not really anything that I am thinking about right now. I am just concentrating on the spring and getting ready for next year."
JH: If this idea is discussed again this fall, is this a decision that you make?
PT: "We haven't really talked too much about it. It is just like I said earlier, it is just an option that I have, and I have just kind of talked about it with my dad. That is pretty much it at this point."
JH: So is this a closed matter?
PT: "Right, I am not considering it at this time. I am just saying that possibility is out there, but that is not what I am focusing on right now."
