It's only November, but the Sooners are still shooting like it's the middle of January.
For the fourth consecutive game, Oklahoma failed to shoot 40 percent from the field, and for the first time this season it cost them.
The 15th-ranked Spartans (2-0) used an 11-2 run midway through the second half to take the lead for good and help extend their home winning to 46 games after knocking off Oklahoma (1-1) 67-55 Wednesay night in the second round of the preseason NIT in East Lansing.
Oklahoma shot 32.3 percent (20-62) from the field, including an abysmal 7-of-28 from the three-point line, while Michigan State shot 56.1 percent from the field.
Michigan State was led by junior forward Adam Ballinger, who set career highs with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Junior guard Hollis Price led the Sooners with 18 points and junior forward Ebi Ere chipped in 16.
The Spartans never trailed and were only tied twice at 2-2 and 39-39. Michigan State led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but the Sooners cut the lead to 33-28 heading into the half on a Hollis Price three-pointer at the buzzer.
The Sooners went on an 11-6 run to start the second half and tie the game at 39-39, but the Spartans got hot and used the 11-2 run to push the lead to 11, and the Sooners never got back within eight points the rest of the game.
With the loss the Sooners are eliminated from the preseason NIT, while the Spartans advance to the semi-finals to face Syracuse next Thursday at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Oklahoma will have two weeks off before they return to the Lloyd Noble Center to host Central Michigan on Wednesday, November 28.
