Recruiting: Plano safety wants to go both ways

The latest on outstanding Plano safety Vickiel Vaughn

JH: How is your season going?

VV: We ended our season at 7-3. We didn't make the playoffs as we finished third in our district missing a playoff spot by one point. My individual season ended up pretty well. I had six interceptions and 67 tackles on defense. On offense I had 25 catches for 428 yards and five touchdowns. I want to go both ways in college and as I talk to colleges they tell me that they will give me a chance to do that.

JH: Are you better at free safety or at wide receiver?

VV: There are a lot of things that I can improve on. I would say that I am equally developed on both sides of the ball. I like playing both evenly.

JH: What sport are you playing next?

VV: I am getting ready to play basketball, where I start at forward. It won't bother my visits at all.

JH: What is going on in recruiting?

VV: I have set visits with Oklahoma (12-14) and Notre Dame (12-7). I am also considering Arkansas, UCLA, West Virginia and Michigan State. I don't have a favorite at this time. I like Oklahoma and enjoy their coaches. I hope I get to know them better. I like the education possibilities at Notre Dame and that is what drew me to them.

JH: What are your thoughts on being named as a prep All-American?

VV: I enjoy being ranked as an All-American, but it really isn't a big deal to me. I play football for fun and I don't take it all that serious. I play the game for the enjoyment of it and not for the publicity of it.
