RECRUITING: Sooners pursuing Florida DE

Carol City, Fla. defensive end Ricky Jean-Francois lists his top five. Did OU make the cut?

Florida always produces defensive ends that are great flying off the edge and Ricky Jean-Francois is another one of those great athletes. Ricky will be a three-year starter playing nose tackle the first two years of his career before moving to defensive end this year.

"It is going to feel good moving outside because I am going to be able to show my real ability," said Jean-Francois. "I am going to be able to show my quickness, my quick hands and feet and my overall strength as well.

"It is going to be better for me outside because I would get triple team inside. I am going to get more one-on-one blocking schemes against me outside and that is going to fit my athletic ability better."

Jean-Francois finished with 85 tackles, 10 sacks, one fumble recovery, 10 forced fumbles and an amazing 26 tackles for losses.

"I become a regular in our opponent's backfield," said Jean-Francois. "I can get a feel for what our opponents are trying to do and I react so quickly that they can't stop me."

Jean-Francois can bench 335 pounds, squats 505 and he has a vertical jump of 32 inches. Jean-Francois went to the NIKE camp at Miami this spring and his summer plans are undecided at this point.

Jean-Francois has been offered by a number of schools and he is working to come up with a workable list that he likes.

"My recruiting is going pretty well for me at the moment," said Jean-Francois. "My top five is Miami, Florida State, N.C. State, LSU and Iowa. Those five have been recruiting me very hard and they have earned my attention."

Oklahoma is just now getting into the picture with Jean-Francois and it will be interesting to see if the Sooners can get into the loop.

Jean-Francois has not set any visits with any school at this time.
