RECRUITING: Sooners make a move for top Texas DT

Was Dallas, Texas DT DeMarcus Granger's unofficial visit to Norman this week enough get the Sooners even with Texas and LSU?

DeMarcus Granger, DT, 6-2, 320, 5.25 Dallas, Texas (Kimball HS):

JH: How did your recent visit to OU go?

DG: "I really just went on an unofficial visit at OU. I talked to Coach (Jackie) Shipp, Bob Stoops and Coach (Jerry) Schmidt. Then I watched a couple of players practice and both Dusty Dvoracek and David Robinson were working hard. David walked on from my high school."

JH: What impression of OU did you come away with?

DG: "I knew the football would be good, but I was surprised how nice Norman was. I thought Norman was going to be a little bitty town, but I found out there were a lot of people there. I went to the Sooner (Fashion) Mall and there were a lot of people there having a great time. I found out that the town wasn't small and I wasn't bored there, and I learned that I could have a good time there."

JH: Now that you have seen OU did you find out that the program fit what you were looking for in a college?

DG: "I actually found everything that I was looking for in a college. They have a great academic program and plenty of tutors to work with you. As I walked around with Coach Shipp I watched and learned that OU has a great family atmosphere. Everybody seems to be on a first name basis and everybody was incredibly friendly. Coach Shipp went over some of the schemes they have for defensive tackles and are a perfect fit for what I like to do."

JH: How does your recruiting stack up at this point?

DG: "I really don't have a top ten. I am just trying to evaluate everything and come up with a great decision. There is a lot of information to work with and that is what I am going to try to do."

JH: Now that you have visited OU is it safe to say that OU will be a school that you will visit officially?

DG: "Yes, sir."

JH: Do you have a favorite at this time?

DG: I am totally wide open. I would say that Texas and LSU along with OU are going to be among my favorites. I am not leaning anywhere and I am totally wide open at this point."

JH: What do you hope to do the rest of the summer?

DG: "I am trying to get ahead on my academics this summer. I am going to take a couple of courses this summer so that I only have to go to school for half a day my senior year. I plan on going to the LSU summer camp this weekend, but I am not sure at this time if I am going to make it or not."
