NCAA: Sooners avoid elimination with 6-1 win

The Oklahoma baseball avoided elimination Saturday morning with a 6-1 win over Central Connecticut State in a loser's bracket matchup at the Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma broke a 1-1 tie and took the lead for good in the top of the fourth inning when Ryan Rohlinger went from first to third on a Josh Stinson double and then scored on a throwing error by the rightfielder. The Sooners then added another run in the sixth and then broke the game open with three more runs in the eighth.

Junior lefthander David Purcey was dominating on the mound for the Sooners with a complete game. Purcey struck out eight and only gave up five hits in nine innings.

Up next for the Sooners is another elimination matchupw with the loser of this afternoon's Florida-UCLA winner's bracket game. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. but could start later due to the late start of the Florida-UCLA game.
