RECRUITING: Offer would entice Daytona Beach LB

Daytona Beach, Fla. LB Matt Lewis talks about his top five and interest in Oklahoma.

Matt Lewis is an old fashion middle linebacker that takes over in the middle and doesn't give ground. Matt actually played defensive tackle the past two seasons, but he has so much quickness that most colleges project him at middle linebacker.

"I like the fact that college coaches are recruiting me as a middle linebacker," said Lewis. "During my freshman season here Buster Davis (FSU) was our middle linebacker and one of our defensive linemen got hurt, and so they just threw me into the defensive line and that is where I have stuck."

Lewis finished last season with 127 tackles, 12 sacks and he scored two touchdowns as a fullback. Lewis is so good at chasing the quarterback that he has a career total of 38 sacks.

Lewis can bench 300 pounds, squats 540 and he has attended the All-American combine in San Antonio, Texas and the NIKE camp at Miami. Later this summer he plans to go to the summer camp at LSU.

Lewis has scholarship offers from Miami, North Carolina, Michigan and Maryland, but he is talking to a number of other schools at the moment.

"I am looking Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami, Michigan and Oklahoma. A couple of weeks ago I talked to a coach from Oklahoma and they are always one of the best schools in the country. If Oklahoma offers me I will get very interested in them in a hurry. I would have to say that Miami and Georgia are my favorites right now, but Oklahoma could get into that mix in a hurry."

Lewis starts in hoops since his sophomore year and averages about 10 points per game.
