RECRUITING: OU battling Oregon schools for LA WR

Los Angeles receiver James Finley talks about his leader and visit from OU coach Chuck Long

JAMES FINLEY, WR, 6'3, 190, 4.5, LAS ANGELES MANUEL ARTS, CALIFORNIA:

JH: Is you high school team still in the playoffs?

JF: We finished our season last week with a 7-4 record. We lost in the second round of the playoffs in a wild game 45-39. I had a good game with eight catches for 136 yards and three touchdowns. For the season, I finished with 85 catches for 1,335 yards and 13 touchdowns. I have been selected to play in the California-Florida all-star game.

JH: Are you just going to lift weights or will you play other sports?

JF: I am getting ready for basketball. The team started practice today and I will start working out with them fulltime on Monday.

JH: How is recruiting going?

JF: I took a visit to Oregon State about two weeks ago. It was cool, as it was like a football town. Everybody seemed to like football and they liked Oregon State. I can't say that I disliked anything about it.

JH: Have you set any other visits?

JF: I will go to Oregon (12-1) and then to Washington State (12-8). I am visiting Oklahoma (12-14) after that and that will probably be it.

JH: Do you have a leader at this point?

JF: Oregon State is my leader. I liked them a lot before I visited there and my visit reinforced what I thought about them.

I like Oklahoma because they are a real good team who throws the ball. I have not committed to Oregon State, so all the other schools still have a good opportunity. I want to take my visits and see how things go from there.

JH: What schools have come by your house this week?

JF: I have had Oregon, Washington State and I had Oklahoma today. Coach (Chuck) Long came by my house and he was cool. I learned some new things about Oklahoma, especially about their academic program and that was real cool.
