EUGENE 'GENO' HAYES, LB, 6'1 1/2, 215, 4.5, GREENVILLE, FLORIDA (MADISON COUNTY HS):
Eugene Hayes is one of the most talented linebackers in the country who plays with a tremendous passion for the game, coupled with the fact that he has tremendous athletic ability as well.
Hayes is a three-year starter starting at defensive tackle as a sophomore, then last season he played half the year at defensive end before moving to outside linebacker.
"I don't care where I line up. I just want to be on the defensive side of the ball, "said Hayes. "I felt free at outside linebacker and I really like that position. On the defensive line there is so much traffic, but at outside linebacker I can run and can easily get to the ball."
Hayes finished last season with 123 tackles, 18 1/2 sacks and two interceptions. He went on an unofficial visit to Florida State recently and participated in the Atlanta Nike Camp in May. Hayes has been offered by 25 different schools at this point and the list looks like a rundown of the nations' top 25.
"I am looking hard at USC right now," said Hayes. "I am also looking hard at Georgia, Oklahoma and LSU. Those are my top four schools, and you can put N.C. State in there for a top five.
"Oklahoma has a great tradition and every year they get to the National Championship game or every other year. I like the fact that OU has great linebackers and the fact their linebackers get recognized among the nations best.
"I have to admit that USC is my leader and they just offered me recently. I am going to try to visit all five schools and that includes Oklahoma. I am far making a decision. I can still go anywhere. I will probably make my decision before the end of my season."
