RECRUITING: Sooners on top for Phoenix FB?

Phoenix, Ariz. fullback Matt Clapp talks about his summer visits and breaks down his favorites. Do the Sooners lead the pack?

Matt Clapp, FB, 6-3, 235, 4.6 PHOENIX, ARIZONA (PARADISE VALLEY HS):

JH: Have you taken any other unofficial visits or gone to any other camps since the last time we talked?

MC: "I have gone to Arizona and Ohio State. I have gone to Oklahoma and Arizona State, plus those two schools so far this summer. I think that will be it for the summer."

JH: Now that you have taken those four visits, how does your recruiting shape up?

MC: "Oklahoma is my No. 1 choice right now. I got my first offer from them and they have always been my favorite. I enjoyed my time at Arizona and I got an offer from them as well. I like their new coaching staff and feel they are going to turn their program around. Their campus is real nice and they have a lot of great things to offer.

"I really like Ohio State, and I was real impressed with their football program. Their campus is huge and their facilities are outstanding. I had a chance to meet their running back coach Dick Tressell and he was a great guy to talk to. We really didn't talk much about recruiting and I enjoyed that.

"At Arizona State the coaching staff is great. They have switched offenses and they really don't use a fullback anymore. Their facilities are nice and I think they will have a better team returning than they had last year."

JH: You mention that OU is your favorite choice because they offered you so early. Does that give the Sooners any kind of an advantage in the recruiting process?

MC: "The fact that Oklahoma really wants me does mean a lot to me as far as my future decision goes. I am not ready to commit, but they are number one with me right now. I want to play my senior season and then take my trips because I want to see what all the schools have to offer me. I have a number of good schools that are recruiting me, and I want to see which school is the very best for me."

JH: How are your summer workouts going?

MC: "They are going well, and our conditioning program is going well. I am working hard on my strength and speed. I believe that I am improving in both areas."
