RECRUITING: OU QB prospect sticking with verbal?

Oakland, Calif. quarterback Kyle Reed update.

Kyle Reed is the type of quarterback that many college programs are going after today. Considered a super athlete, Reed is maturing as a passer, and at this point is considered the type of quarterback that will be an excellent thrower in college.

Reed goes into his senior year a three-year starter, and last year he hit on 55 for 150 passes for 1100 yards and ten touchdowns in just five games. A broken thumb kept Reed out of half the season. As a sophomore Reed threw for 1,500 yards and 14 touchdowns.

"I like to do a little bit of everything," said Reed. "I can drop back and make things in the pocket, but I am also mobile. I can make things happen on the ground and I like to run the ball."

Reed can bench 310 pounds, squats 395 and he has a 30'8 vertical jump. Reed also runs the 100 high hurdles in track (14.9) and he wants to major in biology in college.

Reed has been to the California full contact camp and he went to the NIKE combine at Stanford so far this summer. Reed also participated in the Elite 11 regionals and was picked as the sixth-best quarterback to make the prestigious event.

Reed has around 15 offers at this time, but just recently made a decision to stay close to home.

"Three weeks ago I verbally committed to Cal,' said Reed. "Coach Tedford is a great guy and a quarterback among quarterbacks. I think it will be a great experience for me and it will be a great opportunity to for my family to watch me play. Cal will be the only school that I visit. I was very high on Oklahoma, but they already have a crowded quarterback situation. They have a great school and a great offense, but Cal is just better suited for me at this time."

Editors note: OU had not offered Reed and in fact they have yet offer a quarterback at this time.)
