RECRUITING: Daytona Beach TE to visit Norman?

Daytona Beach, Fla. (Mainland High School) TE Brian Ellis talks about his interest in Oklahoma.

Mainland High School in Daytona Beach will be busy this year with college coaches coming to town as tight end Brian Ellis teams with cornerback Avery Atkins to form an excellent two-some as collegiate recruits. Ellis will be a three-year starter this year at tight end and defensive end, but for the most part he is being recruited as a tight end.

"I am being recruited for both positions," said Ellis. "I really don't care which side of the ball that I play on. I like both positions pretty well."

Ellis finished last season with 20 catches and six touchdowns. Ellis can bench 310 pounds, squats 440 and he starts in hoops (14 ppg). Ellis has not gone to any camps or schools unofficially this summer choosing instead to stay at home and spend time in the weight room.

Ellis has been offered by 15 schools at this point and he is still trying to get down to a top five.

"I really don't have a top five," said Ellis. "LSU, Florida State, Central Florida, Oklahoma and UConn are the schools I like the best. I don't want to say they are a top five because I haven't stopped talking to anybody."

So what about the Sooners?

"My cousin (Jim Lewis/student) went there and he is always trying to get me to go there. I have never been to Oklahoma, but from what I can tell it would be a great place and a great place to go to college. It is a long way from home, but distance is not a factor for me. I am sure that I will visit Oklahoma. I have talked to Coach Wyatt and Coach Pelini from Oklahoma and both are great guys."

Ellis will take the ACT test in September.
