DACE RICHARDSON, OL, 6'6, 300, 5.1, WHEATON, ILLINOIS (WARRENVILLE SOUTH HS):
Dace Richardson is another fantastic offensive tackle prospect that looks like he is already set for the pros. Blessed with great size and ability, Richardson has tremendous ability to play offensive tackle in the college game. Richardson is a relative newcomer to the high school football scene as he didn't even start playing until his sophomore year. Richardson started at right tackle last year, and this season he will play left tackle.
"I hope that I still have tremendous upside to my ability," said Richardson. "We have some other guys on our team who are D1 players and I work hard against them every day. I go up against another 300 pound player every day in practice. I work on my hand placement and my footwork, and just work on the fundamentals. I like the hitting and pass blocking. I would say that pass blocking is my favorite thing to do right now."
Richardson can bench 305 pounds, squats 405 and he has posted a 24-inch vertical jump. He decided to give up basketball to get into the weight room and that has paid off improving his bench from 225 to the current 305.
Richardson has been to Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State and to Florida this summer, but at Florida he didn't get a chance to meet with the coaches. Richards has been offered by 22 different schools at this time and is still trying to narrow down his choices.
"My dad has been out of town since I have been back home," said Richardson. "I haven't even talked it over with him, but I will do that soon. I would say that Iowa, Wisconsin, Southern California and Tennessee are the schools I have the most interest in. I don't know that much about Oklahoma right now. I am going to try to see them over the summer if I can. I have talked to Coach (Kevin) Wilson a couple of times and he seems like a nice guy, but I really don't know him that well yet. I know they need offensive tackles and that is important to me. I don't want to just play one year in college. I want to be able to put together a two to three-year career, so the depth chart is important to me."
Richardson has qualified.
