This weekend the Sooners brought in several of their most coveted recruits including defensive end Larry Dibbles (6'2, 275, 4.6) Lancaster, TX; offensive lineman Justin Blalock (6'4, 325, 5.0) of Plano, TX, (Texas, OU lead on both); tight end Curtus Justice (6'7, 210, 4.5) of Perry, (Miami, OU); offensive lineman LeQualan McDonald (6'6, 325, 5.1) of Waco, TX, (Baylor, OU); linebacker Kai Parham (6'4, 230, 4.5) Virginia Beach, VA, (Virginia, Florida & Tennessee lead); safety Brodney Pool (6'3, 195, 4.5) of Houston Madison, TX, (LSU, K-State, OU); Poole's teammate, DE Calvin Thibodeaux (6'1, 240, 4.6), (LSU, Auburn); cornerback Jason Carter (6'0, 170, 4.4) of Jenks, OK; (OU, Tennessee, Michigan); linebacker Marvin Byrdsong (6'3, 235, 4.6) of Longview, TX, (OU, Arkansas, Texas, Texas A&M, LSU and Florida State); and running back prospect Selvyn Young (6'0, 195, 4.5) of Houston Jersey Village, Texas, (OU, UCLA and Arkansas).
OU Insider has learned that the weekend went as well as can be expected. Many times when prospects visit, immeadiately the staff discerns some recruits who feel that the program, the campus and lifestyle is just not a good fit. However, it was reported that this group apparently was well received by current players and that OU improved their position with almost every prospect.
In a perfect script, the OU staff would like to come out of this weekend with at least three or four additional commits. However the quality of the visiting group, and with the competition beginning to narrow down to other great programs, the likelihood probably works against that scenerio. In reality, OU either gained or lost ground with each recruit. While the timing of the commitment is not as crucial as the commitment itself, it is a fact that the Sooners will need four or five from the group this weekend in order for this class to be what the program needs to maintain it's momentum.
By mid week we should know the evaluation of the weekend from the recruits' perspective and if any of the visiting parties were compelled to commit.
