RECRUITING: Smith enjoys time at scrimmage

Edmond, Okla. free safety Reggie Smith talks about his trip to Norman for Sunday's scrimmage and where the Sooners stand for his services.

Reggie Smith, FS, 6-0, 192, 4.5, EDMOND (SANTE FE) OK:

JH: How much did you enjoy the scrimmage last night at OU?

RS: "I enjoyed it a lot and had a great time. I watched a great football team and I had a good time talking to Coach (Bob) Stoops and the rest of the coaches. I also had fun hanging out with Curtis (Lofton), Ben and Joe (Barresi).

JH: How does it make you feel that the OU fans treat you as if you are already an OU fan favorite at these scrimmages, and you haven't even committed to OU yet?

RS: "That is a great feeling, I certainly can't lie about that. It is a great feeling to know that the OU fans appreciate what I have accomplished so far during my high school career and that they seem to want me to play for the Sooners, which is the football team they like so much. Every time I am at an OU game or practice, OU fans will always say something nice to me and that gives me a good feeling."

JH: Knowing that you are the Sooners No. 1 safety prospect, and knowing how badly the Sooners fans want you to be a Sooner, does make you want to commit to the Sooners at all?

RS: "That certainly gives me a good feeling about Oklahoma that is for sure. As I have said many times, I like Oklahoma a lot. I just need to go through the recruiting process and make sure that I am making the right decision. I still have about 11 schools that I am still considering right now, and I need to start getting that down to five or so. I am going to do that over the next couple of weeks or few weeks. I like Oklahoma a lot. Oklahoma is one of the schools that I am going to compare other schools to."

JH: You want to play safety and that is where OU is recruiting you, but I know that many college coaches feel you can play a number of different positions. There is even talk that you could go both ways. Is that something you would consider?

RS: "I just think I am better at safety than anywhere else. I think that is my best position. I wouldn't be against playing some on offense if that is what my coach wanted me to do. I want to do whatever I can do to help my team win."

JH: When do you think you will narrow your choices down or make a decision?

RS: "I am going to try to narrow my choices down soon, but my decision won't come for a while. I don't have a timetable set for it, but I know it won't be for a while."
