RECRUITING: LSU commit to visit Norman?

LaMarque, Texas safety Clarence Ward update.

Clarence Ward, SS, 6'1, 195, 4.4, LaMARQUE, TEXAS:

JH: How is your summer going?

CW: "I worked very hard this summer. I spent my entire summer workout for my senior season. I took time to go to one camp at LSU and that was it. I thought I did well at that camp, and I felt I impressed the college coaches."

JH: Dave Campbell's Football Magazine picked you as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. What did you think of that honor?

CW: "It is a great honor, but all it is really is hype. I know everybody expects me to live up to it and that isn't what my goal is. I want to win another state championship and I am not worried about any individual honors."

JH: How is practice going?

CW: "We had our first scrimmage last Saturday against Houston Forrest Brook. I came up with one pick and I had eight tackles."

JH: What is going on in recruiting?

CW: "Right now recruiting has come to a standstill. I really don't hear from any colleges except from OU. OU writes me all the time."

JH: Are you still a committed LSU?

CW: "I am committed to LSU, and I think that is where I am going to go. I am probably going to take three visits to OU, UCLA and LSU. I have an interest in some other schools and I just can cancel them out.

"I have seen what LSU has to offer and I need to give these other schools a chance to see what they have to offer. Basically, who wouldn't want to go on a couple of visits to some of the best schools in the country?"
