RECRUITING: Miami OL wants to give OU a look

Miami, Fla. offensive lineman Chris Barney update.

JH: Now that you are back in school, how did your summer go?

CB: "Everything went well. I feel I am ready to go in and start the season off right and lead my team to a state championship. We are going to be pretty good this year, because we have a lot of talent coming back from last year's team that went 12-1. We have come together like a family and we should be very good again."

JH: How did you do in the weight room this summer?

CB: "The last time I got on the scale I was 319. I am now 6-5, 310 and my bench press max was 350. My squat max was 530. Those are better totals than I had last summer."

JH: What camps did you go to this summer?

CB: "I went to the Miami camp and that was the only camp that I went to this summer. I tried to attend the Rutgers camp in New Jersey, but I couldn't make it because of financial reasons. I thought I did well at the Miami camp. I went against some big boys in one-on-one competition and I didn't give up any sacks. So, I think I did very well."

JH: How many schools have offered you?

CB: "I have been offered by 16 schools and I am still considering a good number of them. I haven't eliminated anybody just yet."

JH: Do you have a leader or a top five?

CB: "Right now my leader would have to be my home team, Miami. They are close to my family and everything. They are not too far ahead of all the others. If they take one slight bump or if another program just seems to be a better fit for me, then I would go there."

JH: What other schools do you like besides Miami?

CB "I like N.C. State, Oklahoma, USC, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Michigan State. Oklahoma is a great program and I have talked to the coach many times and I know they are losing both their tackles. That would give me an opportunity to come in a work and possibility to earn a start. I know they have a great program, and I know what Bob Stoops has been able to do at Oklahoma the last few years. I need to check them out academically, because I want to get into engineering and I need to fine out what kind of program OU has in that area. I know that Oklahoma is a great program and one of the very best in the country."

JH: Have you set up any visits?

CB: "I am not set up to visit any college at this time. I just need to figure out what schools really fit me best, and then set my visits up when I really know what schools that I have a good feeling about."
