RECRUITING: Louisville DT could visit Norman

Louisville, Ken. offensive lineman James McKinney profile.

James McKinney, DT, 6-3, 275, 4.9, LOUISIVLLE (CENTRAL HS), KENTUCKY:

JH: When do you play your first game?

JM: "We open our season on Friday. We play Shelby County on Friday. I think we are going to be real tough this season. We have most of our players back from last year when we went 8-3 and we return the No. 1 defense in the state from last year. We gave up on 11 points a game and we should be much better this year. We lost in the first round of the playoffs."

JH: Are you playing defensive tackle or defensive end?

JM: "I have never played defensive tackle in high school. I have played primarily at linebacker and tight end in high school. I know some colleges project me as a defensive tackle, but I really don't want to play defensive tackle. I really don't want to play on the nose. I want to play like Tommie Harris did at Oklahoma."

JH: How did your workouts go this summer?

JM: "I lost weight this summer and got down to 265, and that is where I am going to play this year. I lost about 13 pounds. Our weight room is getting remodeled, so I did mostly resistance drills this summer and a lot of running."

JH: You said you going to talk to OU recently. Did you talk with them and did that conversation go?

JM: "I had real good conversation with Coach (Bob) Stoops and Coach (Jackie) Shipp. They told me that they have a big need for defensive linemen next year, because they graduate all four starters. Plus, I graduate in December and they have a scholarship they can give me so that I can get a head start and go through spring practice with them."

JH: Do you have a favorite or a top five right now?

JM: "I don't have any favorite schools. All the schools are even. I am considering Clemson, who have come on strong the last month. They are also expression a need for me in the defensive line. I am also considering USC, Florida, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Oregon, Michigan, Boston College and Ohio State."

JH: Do you feel you take a visit to Oklahoma?

JH: "Yes. There is a good bet that I will use Oklahoma as one of my five visits. I don't know when I will visit. And I will also have to work through my football season, which could effect who and when I can visit, because we may be playing in December."
