Kentucky lineman scheduled for October visit

Murray, Ken. offensive tackle Cory Zirbel names his final three and discusses the Sooners' chances to land his services. Has Oklahoma closed the gap on Michigan?

Cory Zirbel, OL, 6-7, 292, 5.3, MURRAY, KENTUCKY:

JH: Has your season started yet?

CZ: "We played our first game last Friday and we play again this Friday. We won our opener 38-3. We played well because the team we beat is supposed to be pretty good this year. I played well. I blocked out at 97 percent. It was a pretty easy night for me."

JH: Who do you play this Friday?

CZ: We play Hawkins County Central this weekend and they have been pretty good recently. They are a 3A school and we are a single A school, so they are quite a bit bigger than us. It is always hard to tell how good a 3A school is before they get. Class 4A and single A are the best classes in Kentucky, while 2A and 3A run behind those two."

JH: How did your summer go?

CZ: "I increased my bench press 35 pounds to 395. I got much stronger in my legs. I got my squat max 565 and that is a big improvement for me. I weigh right at 300, and that is where I want to be for the rest of this season."

JH: How is recruiting going?

CZ: "I pretty much have a top three with Michigan, Miami and Oklahoma. I have set up my official visit with Oklahoma the weekend of October 2nd, when they play Texas Tech. I am working to set up the other two visits. Recently, I got my invitation to play in the Army All-Star game in San Antonio and that was a big thrill for me. I will play tackle in the game."

JH: What do you think about Oklahoma?

CZ: "I really like Oklahoma. I am going to take that official visit and see how things go there. After that visit I will know a lot more about Oklahoma and whether they should remain in the top three. I am sure they will. Oklahoma has been very good recently and I have been following Coach (Bob) Stoops over the last three years or so. He has developed one of the top programs in the country. My step-dad is from Oklahoma and he has gone to a few games and has told me how special they are."

JH: Do you have a favorite at the moment?

CZ: "I really don't have a favorite going into recruiting. Michigan was my favorite for a long time, but that was before I visited the other schools. It is pretty much an open ballgame right now."
