Will Powers, DE, 6-4, 230, 4.4, SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA (JUNIPERO SERRA HS):
JH: How did your summer go?
WP: "It went pretty well for me. And we accomplished a lot as a team. I think our overall team strength and speed really improved. Overall, this summer I think it went pretty well. My strength improved a lot. I gained 10 pounds and I will go into the season at 230 pounds. I improved my bench press to 325 and just had a very good summer."
JH: Have you played a game already or at least had a scrimmage?
WP: "We had a scrimmage this past week and we made several little mistakes. There are obviously a lot of things that we still need to work on. It was good to get back into action again. I thought I did well. There are obviously things that I can do better at just like our team."
JH: Are you playing linebacker or defensive end?
WP: "I am actually playing defensive end. I guess it is a defensive end/outside linebacker. I am being recruited primarily as a defensive end. I want to play defensive end in college."
JH: How many schools have offered you at this point?
WP: "I have been offered by 13 schools. It is great to have all these options, and it is pretty exciting this year."
JH: How is recruiting going for you at this point?
WP: "Of those 13 the only ones that I have eliminated so far are Arizona, Tennessee, Washington State and Washington. I am still considering California, Oregon, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Arizona State. I wouldn't call it a top five, but I still haven't eliminated those schools. Those schools seem to have the highest interest for me.
"I like Oklahoma and their football program a lot. I think they will always be competing for a national championship, but academics is also a point that I am looking for. And I don't know if they have the quality academics that I need. I am not sure what I am going to study, but it will be something in the business field. I need to find out more about Oklahoma's academic standard before making a decision on whether to consider them or not."
JH: Have you set any visits at this time?
WP: "No, I have not."
